*Batterer Intervention Program (BIP)

The Batterers' Intervention Program (BIP) is 29 weeks in length (or per court order) and includes intake and assessment, 24 weekly sessions, individual/group counseling, discharge, and certification of completion. Offenders must provide timely payment for services and comply with all program rules and guidelines. This program is based on psycho-educational concepts common to the Duluth Model and specifically addresses tactics of power and control by one person over another. While content focuses on the perpetration of violence between intimate partners, spouses, and those who share a child(ren) in common, it should be noted that treatment topics explore contributing factors to domestic violence such as substance abuse, motivation, personality, relationship dynamics, treatment resistance, attitudes, trauma history, communication, and the connection between shame, humiliation and violence in relationships. The ultimate goal of the program is to achieve victim safety by helping offenders comply with and trust the treatment process, work through root-cause personal, social, family, emotional, and behavioral issues; and, completion of the program with a positive outlook and attitude that a much better life can be achieved by breaking the chain of violence.

*Batterers Intervention Program (BIP) services are designed to comply with recommended guidelines set forth in Chapter 2012 – 147, House Bill No. 7093, pertaining to Section 13, Section 741.325, Florida Statutes regarding requirements for batterers' intervention treatment, intervention, and counseling (http://www.myflfamilies.com/service-programs/domestic-violence/batterer-intervention-program; http://laws.flrules.org/2012/147).
